Posted February 04, 2019 11:30am EDTBy Jennifer StahlCBS Chicago (CBS) – A 19-year-old Chicago high school student was found dead last week in a park in suburban Rockford.
The Rockford Police Department identified the student as a senior at Woodlawn High School.
He was found on a park bench, suffering from a possible self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The student was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a news release from the Rockford-Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.
Police believe the teen had shot himself with a handgun at least once.
The Cook County Medical examiner’s office is conducting an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death.
The Chicago Police Department did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
